The ministry provides broad programs for the well-being of senior members of Good Shepherd, 55 and over. With nearly 400 dues-paying members ($10/year), the ministry is led by a Board elected each year by their peers.
Various committees plan and coordinate a variety of social, spiritual, educational, and outreach activities and events:
Social -
Enables members to gather, get acquainted, spend time together and travel. Members enjoy attending luncheons (5/year), picnics, and organized events with entertainment. Short business meetings precede luncheons. Travel opportunities are available throughout year, ranging from day trips within area to longer trips regionally, nationally and internationally.
Spiritual -
Nourishes spiritual side of members, and helps them grow in their relationship with the Lord. Members plan and coordinate the Morning of Reflection, Senior Thanksgiving Service, and other services.
Education -
Provides Christian educational stimulus to enhance quality of life for members and parish. Ministry believes Christian mind is one that never stops learning and inquiring, as God does not stop revealing Himself to us. Programs seek to deliver Christian perspective on pertinent issues and current events.
Outreach -
Ministers to those in need within and outside the organization. The spirit of gift giving is present in special ways for Senior Shepherds. Collections of toys, money, clothing, and furniture for the needy in our sister parish in Whitley City, Kentucky have been favorite projects for years. Talented members have formed a Jazz Band, which plays at local nursing homes entertaining those who are confined and unable to enjoy live entertainment.
