40 HOURS DEVOTION This past July, thousands attended the 10th National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, humbling themselves before God, praying for our Church, our Nation, and our world. The Congress was part of the National Eucharistic Revival movement with the hope of being united again around the source and summit of our faith in the celebration of the Eucharist.
In October 2023, The Community of the Good Shepherd held 40 Hours Devotion in our chapel. The 40 Hours Devotion is a tradition in the Catholic Church that began centuries ago. With 40 Hours Devotion, the consecrated Eucharist is placed in a monstrance on an altar for adoration for 40 hours. The number 40 is an important number in the Bible. It represents the number of years the Israelites wandered in the desert after the Exodus from Egypt on the way to the Promised Land. We remember that Jesus was tempted in the desert for 40 days before He began His public ministry. We celebrate 40 days of Lent.
DETAILS From October 9 through October 13, 2024, we will again celebrate 40 Hours Devotion. Our hope is to have at least two people in the chapel at all times during the 40 Hours Devotion. Last year, dozens of parishioners spent time in quiet prayer in the chapel.
Registration is not required, but we ask that you kindly sign up on our website by clicking the SIGN UPbutton below. Your name will not be visible to others. Our chapel seats 130 people. By signing up, others can see how much seating remains. Our goal is to provide a prayerful, devotional time. Spend some time in prayer.
CONFESSION DAYS & TIMES On October 9, 10, and 11, Wednesday-Friday, Bishop Joe will be hearing confessions in the confessional in church from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
QUESTIONS If you have any questions about the 40 Hours Devotion, please feel free to email Bishop Joe or phone him in the parish office at 513-489-8815 ext. 723.
We give thanks to God for the great gift of the Eucharist, the Real Presence, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
May God richly bless you. Have a great week. Prayers your way, too!!
