With Gratitude and Appreciation to the People of Good Shepherd...
Many of you are aware that my final weekend as your pastor at Good Shepherd is this weekend (June 25/26, 2022). It is always difficult to leave the place I called “home” for the past seven years. I want to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for the kindness, prayers, and loving support you have offered me during these years. But more than anything else, I give thanks to God for the steadfast faith he has shown in you and through you. Your faith has expressed itself in more ways than I can list, but when it is united to faith of fellow Catholics, it is a joy and a source of great pride for me. Thank you.
I was encouraged when Archbishop Schnurr named Bishop Joe Binzer as your next pastor. I have known Bishop Joe for many years, both ministerially and socially. He is as humble and helpful as they come. I have no doubt that his gifts will bring new life into the parish, and will bolster our call to be authentic witnesses to the Gospel. I am sure you will give Bishop Joe the same welcome you gave me seven years ago, and so I thank you in advance.
I know there’s quite a divide between eastside and westside Cincinnati, but if you ever care to venture west, get your passports stamped, and stop by St. Ignatius in Monfort Heights for a visit. If there are any future opportunities for me to visit you at Good Shepherd, I will certainly take advantage of them.
You have given me far more than I have given you, so for that I will always be grateful. May God continue to bless you and all the people of The Community of the Good Shepherd. I will never forget you.
