The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, followed by the long winter months, can be a very lonely and challenging time for people who are homebound, living alone, and may have lost a loved one. A ministry entitled “Caring Companions” has been established at Good Shepherd where trained volunteers contact the homebound parishioners through phone calls and visits. Ten volunteers have been trained thus far. The volunteers are meant to be a positive source of companionship to the homebound. (Rides and housework are not a part of this ministry.).
If you know of a parishioner who may benefit from visits and/or phone calls, please contact Deacon Mark Westendorf, Director of Pastoral Care & Outreach. Before contacting Deacon Mark, please make contact with the homebound parishioner so they will know in advance that a volunteer may be contacting them.
