Deacons and lay men and women preside at the daily Liturgy of the Word with Communion Service.
Presiding at a weekday Liturgy of the Word with Communion Service is a highly-satisfying ministry appropriate for parishioners who are already Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors. Presiders, like Lectors or Announcers, must have a good speaking voice and be comfortable speaking in front of a congregation.
Advance preparation includes reviewing the readings and preparing a 1-2 minute reflection. Either the Sacramentary or a simple one-page ‘Order of Service’ is used to guide oneself through the service.
During the service, the presider…
Gives a 1-2 minute reflection on the readings
Leads the service from the Chapel altar
Proclaims the daily readings
Leads prayers
Distributes Holy Eucharist
Tidies up afterward
Weekday Eucharist Presiders need to open the church doors, prepare the church sanctuary, and vest for the service; arriving 30 minutes early allows plenty of time for this. The service itself lasts 18-20 minutes.
Training is provided.
Time commitment: 1 hour, 1 - 3 times per month
Meeting times: 7:00 a.m. weekdays or 8:30 a.m. Saturday
