Good Shepherd Supports Our Service Members is a non-profit organization founded by parishioners of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in 2008.
Our mission is to provide support and assistance to United States Military personnel and their families, with a particular emphasis on those serving overseas in harm’s way. We work with the community to promote awareness of the needs, giving the community the opportunity to become involved and contribute in a variety of ways. We pray for our service members and support organizations and efforts to promote the Catholic faith within the Military.
Since 2008, GS-SOS members have held many Activity Center drives, gathering items for care packages and sending hundreds of boxes to deployed military, and handing out thousands of thank you and Christmas cards to parishioners for them to send to the deployed military. Members have volunteered at the VA Fisher House preparing meals for their guests, donated items to Joseph House for their residents, filled Christmas stockings for the deployed and helped local veterans with special needs. Anytime a deployed military member associated in some way with our parish returns home after deployment, a thank you letter with a prayer is sent along with a $100 VISA gift card to that person.
Our veterans are recognized annually on Veterans Day.
Three special envelopes are in the monthly envelope packets received by parishioners (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Thanksgiving) which helps support the work of GS-SOS. In addition, GS-SOS usually holds a Raffle around the 4th of July to raise funds for the ministry.
The GS-SOS members regularly line the Good Shepherd driveway with the American flags the weekends of Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day.

If you would like to join our ministry, or if you have a family member or friend, or friend of a friend, who has someone deployed, please consider adding that person to our prayer and support list. The name and address of that person can be e-mailed to [email protected].
